Court hearings with Vladimir Nikolayev are to be held on May 2
VLADIVOSTOK, May 1, vladivostoktimes.com The arrested Mayor of Vladivostok, Vladimir NIKOLAYEV, has been convoyed from the Pre-trial detention centre of Khabarovsk to Vladivostok.
As Aleksey KAZAKOV, the Mayor's assistant, said, the Leninskiy District Court of Vladivostok will hold hearings with Mr. NIKOLAYEV's participation. In the hearings, the court will consider the motion of the Prosecutor's Office to extend the detention period for Mr. NIKOLAYEV.
The dismissed Mayor was convoyed from Vladivostok to the Pre-trial detention centre of Khabarovsk on April 4. As the Prosecutor's Office of the Primorsky Territory reported, the decision to convoy Mr. NIKOLAYEV to Khabarovsk was made because the investigation of the criminal cases instituted against Mr. NIKOLAYEV is carried out by the General Prosecutor's Office of Russia. The Main Administration of the General Prosecutor's Office of Russia for the Far Eastern Federal District is located in Khabarovsk.
The Prosecutor's Office of the Primorsky Territory charged Mr. NIKOLAYEV with committing a crime stipulated in the second part of Article 285 (Abuse of Official Powers) and the second part of Article 286 (Exceeding Official Powers) of the RF Criminal Code.
On February 28, 2007 the Leninskiy District Court of Vladivostok granted the motion of the Prosecutor's Office of the Primorsky Territory to suspend the tenure of Vladimir NIKOLAYEV as the Mayor of Vladivostok. On March 7, 2007 the court granted the motion to arrest Mr. NIKOLAYEV.
