The staff of scientific and educational complex will develop sea science and study sea dwellers

VLADIVOSTOK, July 23, vladivostoktimes.com The oceanarium which is being built in Russkiy Island, Primorye, will become the biggest in the world and one of its main functions will be development of sea science and preservation of bio diversity of the Far Eastern sea, as Dmitry PITRUK, the director of the scientific and education complex “Primorsky Oceanarium” of the Far Eastern branch of Russian Academy of Science, reported to RIA PrimaMedia.

“Primorsky oceanarium will become one of the biggest in the world. It will include 435 pools and aquariums with total volume of 1,8 thousand cubic meters. One of the most important sections of the oceanarium will be scientific and adaptation building where future dwellers of the oceanarium will be prepared for life in artificial pools. We know little about the sea and sea dwellers and scientific work in the oceanarium will help to answer many questions. Not all oceanariums of the world are aimed at scientific work. For example, the oceanarium in Dalian, China, is oriented at entertainment” said Dmitry PITRUK.

According to him, human activities make great damage to the nature and many dwellers of the Far eastern seas are in danger of extinction. The scientists’ task is to create conditions for preservation of the rare fish.

“We should change our attitude to the nature and turn from consumption to creation. The oceanarium will become a scientific base of the Far Eastern Federal University and the ground for different volunteer movement. The oceanarium staff will be 359 people but it’s not enough for such great scientific center” added Dmitry PITRUK.
