Vladivostok Sailing Vessel to Make Voyage Devoted to APEC-2012

The voyage will last over 300 days

VLADIVOSTOK, April 7, vladivostoktimes.com Vladivostok sailing vessel “Nadezhda” will make a voyage devoted to APEC Summit 2012, as a representative of Nevelskoy Maritime State University reported to RIA PrimaMedia.

This voyage will be guided by RF Maritime Panel, Russian Ministry of Transport, Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport. It will be a national project and Nevelskoy Maritime State University will be the responsible executive.

The sailing vessel is planned to start voyage at the end of 2010 or at the beginning of 2011. The sailing vessel will visit sea ports of all APEC-2012 participant countries.

“Floating university” project which stipulates ecological monitoring of the water and the air with the slogan “Pure water for the Pacific Ocean” will be carried during the voyage with the participation of the experts from Japan, the USA, China, Korea, Chile, and Mexico.

Competitions in sea sports, city tours, joint performances, intellectual games between professional teams of sea cadets are planned in the ports in the framework of the project “Young Captains of the World Ocean”.

Implementation of the project “Russian American” is also planned during the voyage. They plan to visit Fort Ross, and set memorable tablet in honor of Russian seamen who put out the fire in the city in 1863.

In addition they plan to gather material on business, scientific, educational and economic potential of the visited cities and countries and publish a book named “Pacific cities of the world”. At the end of the trip they will make a popular-science film. The book and the film may become the unique materials for APEC Summit 2012.

According to Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport, the estimated cost of the 300 day trip is about 200 million Rubles.

Today sailing vessel “Nadezhda” is on current maintenance. This year they plan to make several training voyages which will be preparation for the Pacific voyage.
