Victor Ishayev: It’s Necessary to Accelerate Process of Appointing Future President of Far Eastern Federal University

The future university is not an APEC object, but a place for studies of Far Eastern residents

VLADIVOSTOK, November 3, vladivostoktimes.com The Plenipotentiary Representative of the RF President in the Far Eastern Federal District Victor ISHAYEV is sure that the time to create world class universities in the Far East came. Plenipotentiary representative’s press service reported it to RIA PrimaMedia.

“Two federal universities are to be created in the Far East – one in Vladivostok, based on the Far Eastern National University, and the other one – in Yakutsk based on Yakutsk State University named after M.K. Ammosov. Now the Department of Education is charged to create the “image” of the Far Eastern Federal University: how many students will be, what universities it will unite, what branches of study and lecturers will be needed. It’s necessary to accelerate the process of appointing the future President of the university, to make him start active work already now, because the university is being built and we should understand what rooms are right and exactly what is needed. The future university is not an APEC object, summit will be there just within two or three days. University is being built for studies of Far Eastern residents. The future federal university is a complex that will be completely financed by state government.

It should be a university of a high level, so that the students, including foreigners, would be anxious to study there. Of course they shouldn’t replace our students but if they pay for education it would only raise the university’s authority. It’s necessary to make diplomas of this university being recognized in many regions and countries. Somehow everybody tries to get an education somewhere abroad, for example, in England or America. Actually there are world class universities. Obviously it’s obligatory to create such universities here in the Far East. Especially that such unique qualifications and specialists of exploring oil and gas, ocean, volcano explorers are tied to our territory. Such professionals are requested also in Japan, Korea and China. If there is a need – we will invite foreign lecturers both for regular work and for giving special courses – it is a prevailing world practice. Of course, the ideology of the future university will be developed by the Department of Education but we will take a direct part in it,” Victor ISHAYEV told to journalists in the interview.
