Pacific Navy Seamen to Show Russia Fighting Power to APEC Summit Participants

Pacific Navy warships detachment heads for Singapore

VLADIVOSTOK, October 28, vladivostoktimes.com Today the Pacific Navy warships detachment including “Varyag,” the rocket missile cruiser of the Guard, the rescue tug “Fotiy Krylov” and the liquid carrier “Pechenega” heads for Singapore. The voyage aims at displaying of St. Andrew's flag – the Russian naval flag and increasing of the friendly and business relations between our countries.

The Pacific Navy ships are to attend Singapore when the leaders of the countries-participants of the APEC Summit are to hold their meeting. The Russian delegation is expected to visit “Varyag”; Sergey DARKIN, the Governor of the Primorsky Territory, will also be among the delegates.

During the one-month visit the Pacific Navy seamen will have a chance to learn about the city and its history. They are to visit museums and historical places, meet the Singapore seamen and City Administration; in their turn, the Singapore residents and tourists can also attend the Russian rocket missile cruiser.   

The press service of the Pacific Navy reports that the crew of the cruiser “Varyag” includes Marines, a flying group and the cadets of the Pacific Navy Institute named after S. Makarov (the cadets are having the practical training aboard the cruiser of the guard), the orchestra members and the representatives of the Vladivostok Eparchy. The musicians will entertain the audience with new pieces of music and the clergymen will carry out the religious ceremonial during the voyage. After arriving in Singapore they will transfer articles of church to the local Orthodox Church.
