Vladimir Putin: "We Will Hold APEC Summit in Vladivostok in 2012"

The Asian-Pacific region will become stronger and be a center of the world policy and economy

VLADIVOSTOK, May 13, vladivostoktimes.com The Asian-Pacific region is one of the leaders of economic development. Summit of the Asian-Pacific economic cooperation is to be held in Vladivostok in 2012 that will become an extra contribution to consolidation of joint efforts on development of the region. The RF Government Chairman Vladimir PUTIN announced it during negotiations with the Prime Minister of Japan Taro ASO, the Primorsky Territory Administration reports.

“In spite of the problems connected with the crisis, the Asian-Pacific region is one of the leaders of economic development. It’s quite naturally that Russia aspires to develop relations with our neighbors in the East. It is also directly corresponded with our aspiration to develop eastern coast of the Far East of Russia,” the RF Government Chairman emphasized.

Mr. Taro ASO noted that he regarded Russia as one of the most important neighbors, which Japan would develop in the Asian-Pacific region jointly with.

On opinion of participants of the negotiations, the Asian-Pacific region will become stronger and be a leader of the world policy and economy in conditions of the global financial crisis. The parties expressed readiness to development of bilateral relations in all directions.

Let us remind that the negotiations were held in the framework of the visit of the official Russian delegation under authority of the Prime Minister of Russia to Japan. The Governor of the Primorsky Territory Sergey DARKIN also joined the delegation. Meetings of representatives of business-communities, presidents of leading universities, governors of Russia and Japan were held during the visit.

Let us remind that the Primorsky Territory is the nearest Russian region to Japan. Japan is a leader in foreign trade turnover of Primorye. The trade turnover has increased 7.3 times for ten years – from USD 324mln to 2.4bln. Japan has invested USD 161mln in economy of the region. The APEC Summit-2012 in Vladivostok and participation in perspective investment projects of the Primorsky Territory open new prospects for cooperation.
